Sundays with the introverted mum

It’s Sunday which means it’s our weekly family day out to the Wirral! We start off swimming with the girls at West Kirby which wasn’t too busy this morning, obviously I’d prefer it to be empty but that’s never going to happen which I can accept. There were a few people there with young children and a couple of single swimmers. Luckily people tend to keep to themselves and are polite so it doesn’t take much of my social battery first thing! We tend to arrive for around 10am which we find is usually the quietest point of the morning and it starts picking up again around 11am as we’re leaving. This changes in the summer months when it’s pretty busy the whole morning! I tend to avoid going during the warmer months and walk round the marina with the baby while the other 3 go in.

After swimming we headed to Hadlow road in Willaston for lunch at the station masters with the in laws. We got caught up in the yearly charity Wirral egg run which we didn’t know was a thing until this morning. It was nice to see people enjoying themselves watching all the bikers and some being gifted mini chocolate eggs! But this added on a fair bit of time to the journey as the traffic was back to back. I would advise if crowds or just generally a lot of public isn’t your thing (definitely not mine) to avoid the route in future, we’ll keep an eye out for next year and find a different route through. The station was uncharacteristically empty and this week the menus had been updated which was a nice surprise! The weather being quite warm meant we got to once again enjoy a little wander around the old station before heading off.

Hadlow road is a grade II listed heritage railway station and museum in Willaston, on the Wirral Way footpath. It has been restored to have the look and feel of the day the station was permanently closed to passengers in 1956. It has an authentic ticket office, waiting room and telephone box. (Can you spot the sleeping cat in the ticket office?)

Hadlow road is a beautiful train station which takes you back in time, a must visit for everyone in my opinion.

Next stop Talacre (Tacalacre if you ask the kids) to spend some pennies in the arcades and sh*t shop which is actually a really good shop with some great bargains. Talacre at this time of year is great, its never really very busy as long as we avoid half term and summer holidays and the kids have the time of their life without having to be around many other people, win win! Social battery didn’t take much of a hit at all today.

Finally home to prepare the kids for the school week and change all my bedding after the smallest human decided to empty pencil shavings all over the bed just before we left the house 🤣 thankfully the day didn’t drain me and this wasn’t too much of an effort to sort.

Overall a fun day with the family without too much overstimulation or interaction with other people, would definitely suggest Talacre during the colder months.
